Ellana Mineral Make Up Haul

Tuesday, October 14, 2008

I know it’s been awhile since I’ve posted about make up so here’s a post for the other make up junkies out there!

Weeks ago, I ordered some sample foundations from a local mineral make up brand called Ellana at their multiply site. I wasn’t sure as to what shades would suit me so I consulted Ms. Coney (whom I believe is the owner but please correct me if I’m wrong!) regarding that matter. Take note that I didn’t even send her my picture, but when I received my samples in a few days (pretty fast service if you ask me!) I found that the two shades she sent me both matched my skin tone perfectly! My sample package included:

  • Cafe Mocha Premium Blend Foundation (medium light with olive undertones)
  • Toffee Mocha Premium Blend Foundation (medium with olive undertones)
  • Espresso Con Panna Finishing powder

I tested them out for a week or two to see if they caused any adverse reaction to my skin and, thankfully, they didn’t. In fact, it somehow felt cool on my skin while I was applying it. Ellana mineral foundations are quite creamy and velvety, and they have sheer to medium finish. I was definitely sold on the product and ordered full-sized jars as well as their lip treatment and scrub.

I have to say that their service is fast and reliable. My items were shipped on Sunday and I received them on Tuesday, intact and packaged very nicely.

Read on for pictures and the reviews on the lip treatment and lip scrub!

Since I already reviewed the powders, let’s take a look at the lip treatment and scrub. They come in two flavors: Strawberry Bliss and Vanilla Bean. Guess what I took?

The lip treatment smelled divine. Not necessarily vanilla-y, more candy/caramel-like but I had absolutely no problem with it. It smelled good enough to eat and not only that, it’s a very effective lip balm with a slight minty feel. My lips felt soft almost immediately. I’d even go so far as to say that it’s comparable, perhaps even better, to Skin Food’s Lip Care Bar which was my HG lip balm.

As for the lip scrub, it smelled the same as the lip treatment, only a bit fainter. When I first opened the small tub, I thought it was made out of loose powder and wondered how I was supposed to go about rubbing it on my lips without sprinkling it all over mouth. Turned out that the scrub powder was very compact. Imagine sugar being dampened very slightly then compressed into a tight container. That’s how it’s consistency is like.

I scooped out a small amount of the scrub using my finger then rubbed my lips gently with it. It wasn’t as messy as I thought it would be. Afterwards, I wiped it off with tissue and applied the lip treatment over it and my lips felt super smooth with no flakes whatsoever.

I highly, highly recommend Ellana’s products! You will have no problem finding a shade that matches you as it was made by a Filipina for Filipina skin. It’s also friendly on your wallet. Of course, you have to buy a kabuki brush to apply your minerals so make sure you include that among your purchases as well. My only wish is that they could open up a branch somewhere in Makati. As of this writing, their only showroom is at Quezon City.
