Conceptart Here I Come!

Sunday, August 10, 2008

For a long while now I’ve been thinking about starting another account in a different art site. Not that I will close my deviantART account, it will remain active but let’s just say that it gets annoying being there. It’s like one big popular contest with extra points if you cosplay or look cute (hell, sometimes you don’t even have to be that cute. Just don some anime chick’s outfit and you’re bound to get noticed).

I want to join a community where it’s all about the art. Not that cosplaying isn’t art in itself, what I mean to say is that I want to be in a place where skills in digital painting are valued over the artist’s physical looks. I want to be in a community where I can get critique from people who actually know what they’re talking about and not from people (and kids) who think they do. It gets redundant getting comments like “Cool!” or “She’s hot!” with every artwork I upload. And quite frankly, it gets very depressing. I’ve outgrown the phase of wanting to get alot of “faves” or pageviews. I want something substantial! God damn it!

So it’s settled. I will join Conceptart as soon as I’m done writing this post. They’ve got alot of serious artists there with no gimmicks attached and their art is absolutely mind-blowing!

DeviantART has been good to me for the past 4 years that I’ve been there. I’ve gained alot of exposure and contacts, but in the long run, I’ve come to realize that it’s a good place to start as a n00b. It’s time for me to level up.

They say deviantart is like the myspace of artists. I have to agree. It’s more like social networking rather than a real art community. Heck! Lots of people treat DA as photobucket.

Professionals go there because of…
1. Curiosity - Look at Erwin Madrid, he’s not updating anymore. I guess he just got curious of DA’s popularity. :P
2. They have a studio or are promoting something and need audience/exposure - IFS, Mechtech (LOL!), etc… :P
3. Community spirit - Which is what DA is good at.

But to improve and be serious? DA is not that site. I agree on that noob thing, it’s like half of the people there are young teens. It’s hard to take critique when you go to their page and see they’re 14 years old and doodles pokemon. XD

Remember the artist that we saw before that disables comments in every piece in her gallery? I understand her now. XP

Hey, this site looks interesting. Thanks for posting about it! Looks scarily similar to CGSociety- are they related?

@It’s moi: Sometimes I’m tempted to disable comments as well, but I fear that I might actually miss out on that one substantial and enlightening comment that I’ve been waiting for *sparkly-eyes* Mag Conceptart ka na rin!

@Fatima: It’s a really good art site :D Nope, this one is sponsored by Massive Black. And it’s free too!

The things missing, of course, are the functionality. Don’t accept you’re accepting a baptize affidavit U BOAT .Also accede that a lot of these U BOAT Watches are simple to indentify as replicas. Do your homework, a lot of sites account accepted differences amid the absolute affair and Replica U BOAT . Obviously the joy of owning a Replica U BOAT Watches is accepting humans anticipate that you own something that you don’t.
