DIY Facial Scrub!

Thursday, August 7, 2008

Don’t have cash to buy those fancy face scrubs? Have no fear! Ms. Cheapskate is here!

Ok. I’m not really a cheapskate per se, I just spent P2k+ on these products alone, but it’s nice to have another (cheaper) alternative to pricey beauty products especially if you somehow find yourself broke and payday is just too darn far away.

So what ingredients make up this DIY facial scrub? Read on to find out! Don’t I sound so enthusiastic with all these exclamation points?!!!!!

That’s right. Cetaphil and baking soda. A little rundown on these babies:

CETAPHIL: Cetaphil is facial cleanser that’s strong enough to remove makeup while still remaining gentle for those who have sensitive skin. It doesn’t leave your skin feeling tight or dry, and leaves a moisturizing “film” on your skin. It’s one of my all-time favorite facial cleansers.

BAKING SODA: As you all know (or probably “don’t know”), baking soda is used as a multi-purpose cleanser and deodorizer. It is also used to soothe skin irritated by insect bites, sunburn, etc., and even whitens your teeth. Because the particles are so fine, it makes an excellent exfoliator for your face, especially if you have sensitive skin.

    MAKING THE SCRUB:

1. First things first. Remove your makeup (if you are wearing any) with your makeup remover (cleansing milk, cold cream, cetaphil, use what you normally use to get rid of it). Follow it up with a facial soap and water wash.

2. With your face still damp, pour a tablespoon of baking soda into your palm or a small bowl. A tablespoon is enough for me, but if you want to make a bigger mixture, you are free to adjust the portions accordingly.

3. Next, mix in the Cetaphil. Make sure it starts having a pasty consistency before you apply it to your face. If it’s still too dry and crumbly, add some more Cetaphil. At this point, the mixture starts to feel quite cold.

4. Work the mixture into your face part-by-part in small circular motions, starting with the forehead. Work your way to your cheeks, your nose, then lastly your chin. I usually give 15-20 secs per area. Rub gently! Do not underestimate the power of the baking soda scrub! [cue thunderclap here]

5. Rinse off with tepid water, followed by a cold splash of water afterwards.

6. Pat dry and PRESTO! Squeaky clean skin!

Before ending this post, here are some important points to bear in mind:

  • Rub  the mixture into your skin gently. You wouldn’t want to overscrub and leave your skin feeling sore.
  • Exfoliate only once or twice a week. Over-exfoliating will irritate your skin and cause you to breakout.
  • Do not rub the mixture onto the immediate areas around your eye. Rubbing it onto your upper and lower eyelids is a no-no!
  • If your skin is acne-prone, using an exfoliating scrub will only aggravate it. But if you must exfoliate, be sure to avoid the areas that have acne.

And if you are also one of those people, who have sense of style, then there is nothing more helpful and valuable for you other than wearing and carrying the products of Abercrombie and Fitch clothing .
